Leaving Murcia in the morning, we take the highway to Cieza , and head off in the direction to Calasparra and Albacete Province, along the CM-3217, to Socovos.
From Socovos, we ride to Elche de la Sierrra, which dates back to prehistoric times, with local sedentary findings from the Neolithic and Chalcolithic period. At this point in time, mankind replaced the nomadic lifestyle, alternating hunting and herding to agriculture.
Local culture is formed on strong origins and trans-Mediterranean stimuli brought to the region by Etruscans, Phoenicians, Carthaginians and Greeks, who arrived at the peninsula at the dawn of the first millennium BC.
We keep riding, until we arrive at Riópar, where we will take a break at the origin of the Río Mundo. After a while, we’ll leave the province of Albacete, and ride trough Siles, towards Jaén (Andalucía), where we will ride along the edges of Parque Natural de Cazorla, until we arrive at Pontones for lunch, where we can taste a delicious Segureño lamb, one of the local delicacies.
After lunch, we will leave Jaén Province and make for the province of Granada, crossing la Puebla de Don Fadrique, with ‘Revolcadores’ the highest mountain of Murcia Region, on our left hand side.
We ride onwards, to Caravaca, where we will visit the Sanctuary of Vera Cruz. The town of Caravaca de la Cruz is one of the five holy cities of the world, along with Rome, Jerusalem, Santiago de Compostela and Santo Toribio de Liebana.
After visiting this place of sanctity and reverence, we will ride back to Murcia, where we can relax after an interesting day with many curves, spectacular landscapes and beautiful monuments, followed by a good typical meal for dinner. Accompanied by some good local wine, of course!
